Historic Details: 

The Coquí is a small, arboreal tree frog native to Puerto Rico, named for the "ko-kee" sound its males make to attract females and define territory, and it is an important cultural symbol of the island. While many coquí species are abundant, some are endangered due to factors like deforestation and the spread of a specific fungus. There are 17 different species of coqui frogs in Puerto Rico, adapted from coastal areas to cloud forests in the mountains. Size: 1 to 2 inches (2.5 to 5 cm) long.
